On September 11th, 2001, a series of airline hijackings and suicide attacks were committed on United States soil against United States citizens and citizens from around the world.
Our flag flies at half-mast today to commemorate their memory as well as the brave first responders who ran to their aid, of which some gave their lives responding to this series of attacks with the last plane striking the second of the World Trade Towers at 10:03 am.
- 246 people lost their lives in the airline hijackings
- 2,606 people lost their lives in the Twin Towers and Pentagon attacks
- 343 firefighters, 60 police officers and 8 paramedics gave their lives in the aftermath that followed.
Patriot day, Sept. 11th, is a day to remember the lives of the innocent who showed extraordinary bravery, courage, sacrifice and selflessness in the midst of these tragedies. Take a minute this week and thank our community EMT (ambulance) volunteers, fire fighters, sheriff and deputies and other first responders.
