The National Honors Society promotes recognition for the students who reflect outstanding accomplishments in the areas of scholarship, character, leadership, and service.

 

The induction banquet is held in the fall of the year. This includes the candlelight ceremony and the installation of officers.

 

Forms and Guidelines:

 
Service 22-23 School Year: 
  • Help provide a donation or basket for several area benefit fundraisers 
  • Extra help with the concession stand  
  • Help with Howard Fall Festival games, face painting, and meal 
  • Trunk or Treat on Howard Main Street 
  • Serve a meal at Homecoming with money raised going to community service projects 
  • Dig Pink basket donation 
  • Tigers Step Up 2 Cancer Sponsor (NHS Hat Day) 
  • Help work the Horizon Foundation Pancake Feed 
  • Help serve Miner County veterans’ soup supper 
  • Holiday card and gift to residents of Howard Good Sam and Whispering Winds 
  • Holiday Christmas Presents to Elementary Backpack Students 
  • B.U.S (Blankets, Underwear, & Socks) drive for ICAP 
  • Volunteer for ICAP at the Newley New Shop & donation 
  • Old eyeglasses collection for the Lions Club 
  • Find workers and work at various Miner County activities  
  • Treats to healthcare workers 
  • Beautify Miner Country with trash clean-up

 

 

Service 21-22 School Year: 

  • Serve a meal at Homecoming with money raised going to community service projects 
  • Tigers Step Up 2 Cancer Sponsor
  • Donation to Horizon’s Smiles for Miles 
  • Volunteer for ICAP at the Newley New Shop & donation 
  • Do projects/cleanup around the school 
  • Provide ham sandwich, snacks, and drink at Miner County veterans meeting 
  • Help serve at veterans’ soup supper 
  • Holiday cards and gift bags to residents of Howard Good Sam and Whispering Winds 
  • Holiday Christmas presents to Elementary Backpack students 
  • Food drive for Safe Places of Eastern South Dakota
  • Meat/Cheese/Fruit tray for elementary and high school 
  • Extra help with the concession stand as needed 
  • Beautify Miner Country with trash clean-up 
  • Help provided a donation or tie blankets for several area benefit fundraisers 

 

Service 20-21 School Year: 

  • Help with high school open house 
  • Serve a meal at Homecoming with money raised going to community service projects 
  • Elementary tutoring 
  • NHS Hat Day in conjunction with Tigers Step Up 2 Cancer 
  • Help provided a donation or tie blankets for several area benefit fundraisers

  • Collect Jeans for the 4-H Jean Campaign 
  • Miner County Historical Society Volunteering (Moving help and Giving Tuesday)

  • Donation to Jane Hoyer Fundraiser 

 

Service 18-19 School Year:

  • Serve a meal at Howard Cold Storage Homecoming with money raised going to community service projects
  • Provide drink and snack at high school during conferences
  • NHS Hat Day in conjunction with Tigers Step Up 2 Cancer
  • Help provide silent auction baskets for benefit
  • Help Loyal Ladies of Carthage setup for Haunted House
  • Serve hot chocolate at Hometown Holidays for Horizon Smiles for Miles and donation to the program
  • Help service at veterans soup supper
  • Holiday card and blanket, and gift bags to residents of Howard Good Sam and Whispering Winds
  • Holiday Christmas presents to Elementary Backpack students
  • Brought donations to Good Sam for the Backpack Program
  • Provide meat/cheese tray, snacks, and drink at Miner County veterans February meeting
  • Gift basket for Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation
  • Extra help with the concession stand as needed
  • Donations to Children's Care Corner for annual supply drive and to Good Sam for family room renovations
  • Help with high school open house
  • Provide snacks to elementary and high school for American Education Week
